Abstract
► Human populations contain anti-social punishers - defectors who punish cooperators. ► We show anti-social punishment can prevent the coevolution of cooperation in groups. ► Group size and dispersal frequency alter coevolutionary outcomes for social strategies. ► Anti-social punishment reduces the basin of attraction for pro-social behaviour.
