Abstract
⺠Partial differential equations for multi-level selection models. ⺠Birth and death events at the level of individuals and at the level of groups of individuals. ⺠The traditional Hamilton's rule generally fails to predict the direction of selection. ⺠Modified Hamilton's rules can predict short-term evolutionary change, but not long-term outcomes. ⺠Long-term outcomes are determined by the dynamics of assortment.
