Abstract
⺠Markov models of wild-type and R76C mutant gastrointestinal sodium channel function have been created. ⺠Resulting channel descriptions were included in whole cell ICC and SMC computational models. ⺠Simulations of the ICC and SMC models were performed to assess the cellular effects of the R76C mutation. ⺠Simulated ICC slow wave was decreased in duration and the resting membrane potential in the SMC was elevated. ⺠These results indicate a possible role of this mutation in intestinal pseudo-obstruction.
