Abstract
► Multiscale Modeling of pulmonary gas (O2 and NO) uptake in the human lung. ► We divide the human lung into micro (RBCs), meso (capillaries), macro (lung) scales. ► Liapunov-Schmidt scheme of bifurcation theory used to reduce model dimension. ► The above model is applied to quantify hypoxemia in NO induced methemoglobinemia. ► Our simulations reveal the disease mechanism and the critical levels of NO ∼203 ppm.
