Abstract
⺠We evaluated the yield potential and yield gaps of maize production in China. ⺠Farmers attained half of the yield potential and 64% of the experimental yield. ⺠Maize yield gaps were larger than those of other cereals grown in China. ⺠An integrated soil-crop management system could largely close the yield gaps.
