Abstract
ⶠP. expansum is the main postharvest pathogen of apples and produces the mycotoxin patulin. ⶠCurrently used fungicides (e.g. benzimidazoles) are often ineffective and involve various risks. ⶠThe integration of recent low-risk fungicides with biocontrol yeasts is a promising alternative to control the pathogen better. ⶠThis strategy efficiently reduces Penicillium rot, fungicide residues and patulin contamination of apples.
