Abstract
⺠Ambient noise and design specs of tanks were surveyed among public aquaria. ⺠Ambient noise ranged from 116 to 143 dB SPL (re: 1 μPa) total RMS power. ⺠Ambient noise averaged 126 dB SPL (re: 1 μPa) total RMS power. ⺠Glass tanks were louder than acrylic and concrete tanks, but not fiberglass tanks. ⺠Bare bottom tanks were louder than tanks with a plenum or gravel bottom.
