Abstract
► Acute and subchronic cadmium (Cd) exposures impaired green-lipped mussel physiology. ► Gill Cd accumulation showed linear correlation to subchronic Cd concentration. ► Clearance rate (CR) was impaired at elevated Cd levels. ► CR inhibition was strongly correlated with tissue Cd accumulation. ► Mussel CR may be a simple and effective tool for assessing coastal Cd contamination.
