► Peatland forestry can pose a risk of oxidation of sulphides during dry period in AS soil related area. ► During normal hydrological years the risks of acid surges are minor. ► Controlling the depth of the GW level is important for avoiding acid surges. ► Weir depth should equal peat depth for optimal functioning.
