Abstract
⺠Nitrogen deposition led to long-term declines in sugar maple seedling abundance. ⺠Nitrogen deposition also reduced the abundance of the dominant understory tree. ⺠These changes are caused by increased mortality, not reduced reproductive output. ⺠These shifts in community composition may affect forest regeneration.
