Abstract
► We reconstructed the fire history of a Pinus nigra forest. ► We used cross-sections of fire scarred trees. ► The study area has experienced frequent surface fires over the last two centuries. ► Recent fires are larger and burn mostly as crown fires. ► P. nigra can withstand a long-term surface fire regime.
