Abstract
⺠Different forest structures differ in impacts on snow characteristics (depth, hardness, maturation) for reindeer grazing. ⺠Multi-layered forests are more variable in snow hardness than single-layered forests. ⺠Weather variation interacts strongly with forest structure in influencing snow characteristics. ⺠Timing and severity of weather events are decisive for snow metamorphism. ⺠Reindeer herders need variation in the landscape to react to weather variation and consequences on snow characteristics.
