► Most forest stand attributes infer higher biodiversity values in Lithuania. ► Current forest management practices imply increasing biodiversity gap between countries. ► These effects in part are unintended outcome of silvicultural paradigms and other factors. ► Harmonisation of forest inventories is necessary for systematic international comparisons.
