► We study how fertilization affect genetic parameters of Norway spruce clones. ► Fertilization increases heritability and accuracy of estimated genotypic value. ► Fertilization induces substantial genotype-environment interaction for growth traits. ► Clones should be tested and selected in the environment they are to be deployed.
