► Factors for timber demand in Bangladesh have been investigated in this study. ► Railway sleeper making is imposing the highest pressure on timber resources. ► Timber supply is not being able to meet the increasing timber demand. ► Wooden railway sleepers need to be fast substituted by concrete slabs. ► Checking population growth is critical to reduce timber consumption.
