Abstract
⺠Poor people depend substantially more on environmental resources. ⺠Poor people are more affected by living close to the protected area. ⺠Costs of living close to the park vary but average around 20% of total incomes. ⺠By comparison, outreach activities meant to reduce conflict levels around the park constitute less than 2.5% of costs. ⺠Local people contribute 50% of what the state does in relation to the total costs of the park including park management costs.
