Abstract
⺠Agriculture is central to REDD + and fated to remain so. ⺠Little proof confirms the Borlaug (land sparing) hypothesis mostly for economic reasons. ⺠Changes in agricultural technologies have contrasted consequences on forest cover. ⺠Public support policies are required to secure positive impacts. ⺠National strategies for REDD + do not incorporate these research findings yet.
