Virtual farmland: Grasping the occupation of agricultural land by non-agricultural land uses

- Non-agricultural land uses are encroaching upon farmland worldwide.
- Existing monitoring approaches do not grasp the full extent of these phenomena.
- We developed a two staged methodology to quantify and identify these inconsistent uses.
- Our results state that 10% of the allocated farmland is under non-agricultural use in Flanders.
