Abstract
⺠The terms ecosystem services and environmental services are used interchangeably. ⺠Recent definitions do not distinguish between natural and man-made services. ⺠We define ecosystem services as services provided by nature. ⺠We define environmental services as services provided by humans. ⺠We thus propose that PES be understood as 'payments for environmental services'.
