Abstract
Two principal mechanisms favourable to adsorption of Cr(VI) anions onto metal oxide surfaces. Hardness-match may replace chemical affinity in that the basicity of the OH groups on metal oxide sorbents is quantified in terms of the hardness, thus establishing a theoretical basis for further quantification.
