Abstract
Process intensification of vinyl acetate-VeoVa10 latexes production is investigated by synthesizing commercial-like 57Â wt% solids waterborne dispersions stabilized with poly(vinyl alcohol) in 2 CSTRs in series. The effect of several process variables (temperature, initiator concentration and emulsifier distribution along continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTRs)) on monomer conversion and polymer microstructure was analyzed. A mathematical model that considers the segregation of the polymer among particles and the effect of the residence time distribution was developed and a good agreement between the experimental data and model predictions was achieved.
