Abstract
With the change in the economic scenario in the globalised scheme, some countries managed to adequately address the globalisation of markets, using it as an opportunity for expansion. However, in economies such as Colombia, globalisation brought with it competitive challenges at an industrial level that could not be faced adequately. This is an alarming situation if one takes into account that the industry can be an engine of economic growth. In this context, this article questions the importance of carrying out an industrial restructuring in Colombia, in order to strengthen the competitive capabilities to generate productive links and to mark economic growth. It is also proposed that aspects, such as modernisation and innovation in industry, the formulation of policies that promote industrial restructuring, institutional capacity, the organisation of production systems at the local level, and infrastructure, are crucial in the evolution of the industrial structure.
