Abstract
- Ex ante biofortification studies should be chosen to appropriately address one of four general categories of research questions.
- Ideal ex ante studies for examining biofortification should include or consider: 1) planning horizon; 2) distributional data; 3) aspects of supply and demand 4) and disaggregated estimates.
- Biofortification is highly cost-effective according to World Bank criteria.
- Biofortification can reduce the prevalence of inadequate micronutrient intake among children and non-pregnant women.
- Biofortification is best regarded as a complementary intervention particularly for infants and pregnant women.
