Abstract
⺠I examine the imperial agricultural science of Albert Howard in India and England. ⺠Howard emphasised symbiotic association between mycorrhizal fungi and plant roots. ⺠Howard naturalised his imperial project in his descriptions of mycorrhizal fungi. ⺠Howard's use of human and fungal intermediaries reveal intercultural discontinuity. ⺠A focus on discontinuity can reveal limitations in Gieryn's hybrid framework.
