Abstract
Similar to other coating materials, the stability is significant enhanced by coating because Ni3+/Ni2+ transformation and lithium leach can be delayed due to isolating the material from H2O and CO2. V2O5 coating has superiority in suppressing moisture uptaking in air when compared with TiO2 or Al2O3 coating, because lithium-reactive V2O5 will react with the lithium impurities on LiNiO2-based materials and then the storage performance in air is more prominent. Nevertheless, lithium impurities still exist on the surface for TiO2 or Al2O3 coated materials. Thus Li2CO3 forms and Li+ ions can be more easily leached from the bulk, because slightly acidic CO32â ions are conducive to lithium leach.161
