Abstract
► The relationship between the thermodynamic stability and microscopic bonding of Li4Ti5O12 is investigated. ► The low formation enthalpy indicates that spinel Li4Ti5O12 has a high thermodynamic stability. ► PF5 is the main species which damages the SEI layer.
