Abstract
⺠We show a direct formate fuel cell using an alkaline polymer electrolyte membrane. ⺠This fuel cell produces power density competitive with existing liquid fuel cells. ⺠The alkaline environment is advantageous for catalysts and reaction rates. ⺠Formate oxidizes at a faster rate and lower potential than ethanol or formic acid.
