► Failure mechanisms in the LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 electrode at elevated temperature. ► The electrode failure is caused by the breakdown of electrically conductive network. ► Crack or void forms inside the composite electrode layer. ► Reinforcing the electrically conductive network is effective to mitigate the failure.
