Abstract
► An SOFC-GT is proposed for novel implementation in a freight-bearing locomotive. ► A first principles-based dynamic simulation model for the system is described. ► Simulations at full-power and for simple dynamics are compared for three fuels. ► Rated-power efficiencies are found to be greater than 65%. ► Electrochemical oxidation of CO may have a large effect on system control.
