Abstract
► An SOFC-GT system is found to fit within physical locomotive size constraints. ► A freight-bearing SOFC-GT train is simulated over a representative route. ► Dynamic performance is compared for 3 fuels; diesel is most difficult to control. ► The diesel system is approximately 20% more efficient than conventional engines. ► Natural gas and hydrogen are simulated and found to be viable future fuels.
