Abstract
► Elements of the 13th and 14th group tend to cumulate in phase Mg2Ni of the eutectic Mg/Mg2Ni. ► This tendency to segregation is most significant in hydrogen-charged state of alloys with alloying elements from the 13th group. ► It seems that the tendency to segregation is correlated with the ionization potential of alloying element. ► The higher is the enrichment of phase Mg2NiH4 on X, the higher is the hydrogen storage capacity of (Mg-Ni-X)-H. ► The highest storage capacity was observed for alloy Mg-Ni-In.
