Synthesis and mechanical properties of a new 1D hybrid organic-inorganic lead iodide

A new one-dimensional (1D) hybrid organic-inorganic lead iodide, [(Me)2-bipy][Pb2I6] ([(Me)2-bipy]2 + = (C6H7N)22 +), has been synthesised and structurally characterised. Nanoindentation experiments signify that though the crystal structure of [(Me)2-bipy][Pb2I6] is highly anisotropic, its elastic moduli and hardnesses show insignificant directional effect, these interesting properties are essentially attributed to the presence of dendritic [(Me)2-bipy]2 + and the Van der Waals interactions between the inorganic and organic components.186
