► GhWLIM5 gene is expressed widely in different cotton tissues. ► Distribution of GhWLIM5 proteins is associated with actin cytoskeleton in cells. ► GhWLIM5 proteins bundle actin filaments for modulating dynamic actin cytoskeleton. ► GhWLIM5 may play an important role in protecting F-actin from depolymerization.
