Abstract
⺠Rosaceae species have abundant sorbitol dehydrogenase (SDH). ⺠Arabidopsis also possesses an SDH enzyme, which is cytosolic. ⺠SDH prefers sorbitol, ribitol and xylitol to other sugar alcohols. ⺠sdh- mutants have reduced growth on sorbitol and enhanced drought resistance.
