Abstract
⺠Distinct microbial communities differ in their functional properties. ⺠Winter community exhibited higher capacity for degradation of complex C substrates. ⺠Summer community more intensively used labile C substrates. ⺠Community in tree-girdling plots exhibited stronger utilization of complex substrates.
