Abstract
► Structure of soil bacterial communities differed between two tropical forest soils. ► The structures of bacterial and tree communities were correlated. ► There was greater richness of bacterial taxa in the more nutrient-rich clay soil. ► Habitat filtering due to anoxia and pH may be important in community assembly. ► Differences likely result from responses to divergent soil and vegetation properties.
