Abstract
												⺠The quality of DOM is important in determining its fate in forest ecosystems. ⺠Proteins and sugars represent a sizeable fraction of DOM from root and leaf litter. ⺠DOM from root litter may be more likely to contribute to soil organic matter. ⺠A large portion of the soluble N and P in fine roots is likely to be rapidly recycled. ⺠Results highlight importance of DOM from root litter to C and nutrient cycling.
