Abstract
⺠We investigated microbial dynamics for respiration pulse induced by rewetting dry soil. ⺠Further, we studied how the history of drought modulated this response. ⺠Drought slowed responses to rewetting. ⺠A history of drought decreased C loss, while bacterial growth was unaffected. âºÂ A history of drought thus stimulated bacterial growth efficiency.
