Abstract
⺠We incubated soil physical fractions along a chronosequence of woody plant encroachment. ⺠Relative carbon loss during incubation was lowest from more established woody stands in both soil fractions. ⺠Litter chemistry and quantity combined with nutrient limitations may drive C accrual.
