Using 15N tracers to estimate N2O and N2 emissions from nitrification and denitrification in coastal plain wetlands under contrasting land-uses

► Nitrification and denitrification both emitted N2O in contrasting coastal plain soils. ► Mineral soils and organic soils responded differently to drainage and simulated rain. ► In agricultural soils, nitrification N2O yields were lower than from denitrification. ► In forested wetlands, nitrification N2O yields were higher than from denitrification. ► N2O yields from forested wetlands were higher than expected for freshwater wetlands.
