Abstract
► CO2 and N2O fluxes during soil thaw in a Mollisol are related to root mass/length. ► CO2 emissions were related to available and aggregate-protected organic matter pools. ► N2O emissions were related to aggregate-protected organic matter. ► Relationships with substrate pools indicate differences in organism substrate use.
