Abstract
⺠We examine the influence of crust development on physicochemical soil properties. ⺠Properties of the crust and the underlying soil improve with crust development. ⺠Improvement is especially remarkable in the top soil layer. ⺠Well-developed crusts enhance soil water content, stability and fertility in drylands.
