Abstract
⺠Litter decomposition rate among South African fynbos plant species varied 8-fold. ⺠Decomposition rate was related to litter stoichiometry (C/N-ratio). ⺠A mixture decomposed faster than expected from the two single litters. ⺠Biological decomposition may be more important in fynbos than previously suggested.
