Abstract
► Zoosporic true fungi are common inhabitants of many soil ecosystems. ► We have discussed some of the important characteristics of the morphology of zoosporic true fungi and their life cycles. ► These fungi have significant ecological roles in soil. ► A number of specific adaptations to soil environments possibly give these fungi advantages over other groups of microbes. ► New methods are being developed for studying microorganisms in three-dimensional space in soil.
