Soil C storage as affected by tillage and straw management: An assessment using field measurements and model predictions

▶ Reduced tillage (RT) and straw retention both increase soil C at Irish field site. ▶ No significant effects of tillage or straw retention on soil C contents below 30 cm. ▶ Model simulations suggest that RT decreases the decomposition of old soil C. ▶ Modelled C mitigation rate under RT for Ireland: 0.18-1.0 Mg C ha−1 y−1.
