Abstract

- Stenotrophomonas maltophilia was isolated as an opportunistic pathogen from the kidney of Clarias gariepinus
- The affected catfish had distended abdomen filled with transparent jelly-like mass
- Morbidity and mortality of S. maltophilia infection in catfish was about 20% and 3%, respectively.
- The alpha-hemolytic, protease and lipase positive S. maltophilia was weakly pathogenic to catfish.
- It caused 35 ± 5% mortality at 1.40x107 cells/fish via intraperitonial injection.
