Toward a sustainable production of genetically improved all-male prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii): Evaluation of production traits and obtaining neo-females in three Indian strains

► All-male prawn culture presents promising avenues for increasing yield and income. ► Three Indian geographically isolated prawn strains were assessed for all male culture. ► The West Bengal strain showed best performance after eight months growout in ponds. ► Functional neo-females were achieved via androgenic gland ablation. ► Reciprocal strain cross of neo-females and males is suggested for monosex production.
