Abstract
The Calakmul Biosphere Reserve is considered an important area because it contains ecosystems with a great diversity and fragility. Besides having a high number of endemic, threatened and endangered species, the diversity of mammals in Calakmul is also outstanding. However, despite recognizing the great diversity of species in the region, little is known about the ectoparasites associated with them and the diseases that can be transmitted as vectors in the state of Campeche. In this study, 197 mammalian specimens of which 22 (11.16%) specimens of 7 species had fleas were reviewed, which belong to the families Pulicidae and Rhopalopsyllidae (4 genera and 7 species), reaching 10 species of fleas in the state, also 5 new species records for the state, 2 are new host records and 1 new record for the country are recorded. We are also confirming the presence of 2 species of fleas (Ctenocephalides felis felis and Pulex irritans) of medical importance and considered as potential transmitters of pathogens in the state of Campeche. These species have been reported in Yucatán and Guatemala as vectors of rickettsial and bartonellae.
