Abstract
Penicillium virgatum sp. nov. is described from the soil of a soybean field in New Caledonia. Its delimitation from P. daleae isolated from forest soils in Poland and Germany, is discussed. The species are differentiated on the basis of morphological features of their cultures in vitro comparison of the PCR-RFLP profiles with Ddel, Hpall, Sau3Al, and Tagl restriction endonucleases, and nucleotide sequences.
