► Labeo rohita ceruloplasmin gene was sequenced and characterized. ► The ontogeny and tissue-specificity of this gene was looked into. ► Its regulation during Aeromonas hydrophila infection was studied in rohu. ► It was proved to be an indirect marker for selection to A. hydrophila resistance.
